Where did I stay?
I stayed in Skyview holiday home, booked from booking.com, a beautiful holiday home right next to the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake.
Attractions at a glance:
Rock Garden
The world’s most unique garden built decades ago by Nek Chand Saini who won several accolades for it. It is a beautifully made sculpture garden built out of scraps and rocks. The garden has artificially made waterfalls, lakes, arenas, mini theatre and lures masses with several other entertaining things.
Trivia: Most of the garden is well covered with trees and rock shades so you do not feel the heat of the day. This makes it suitable to be visited any time of the day.
Tip: You wouldn’t be allowed to take eatables inside, but don’t worry as there is a cafeteria inside and you can always taste what the numerous street vendors have to offer just outside the park.
Sukhna Lake

At the foothills of the Himalayan range, right beside the rock garden, is the spectacular and sparkling Sukhna Lake, offering mesmerizing views. The ducks by the lake, scintillating sunset and sunrise views, hills in the surrounding and clear sparkling water of the rain-fed lake keep you enchanted. People enjoy water sports like boating, rowing, sculling, sailing, kayaking and water skiing all available at the lake for the entire year.
Trivia: The water sports are available from 9:30 am to 6 pm in the lake, however, people do go out there to catch a glimpse of the rising sun.
Tip: If you are only there in Chandigarh for a day or two, visiting the lake in the evening for a boat ride while the sun sets amidst the hills would be the best bet.
Sector 17 Market

A big market area with both street vendors and brand outlets in the same arena, loads of eating joints, unique laser-fountain shows, music, liveliness with pomp and show is what clearly defines Sector 17 market. Maybe lesser known as a tourist spot, sector 17 market is extremely popular among the ‘Chandigarhis’. The market is just a 10-15 mins drive from Sukhna Lake and Rock Garden.
Trivia: Laser shows start running from 7 pm in the evening. They run every half an hour until 8:30 pm. Also, you can buy some really cheap yet good quality stuff from the street vendors in the Sector 17 market ranging from clothes, accessories to home decor.
Tip: Go out there late in the evening, when it lights up and the Laser Shows start running. Eat your dinner at one of the restaurants there, enjoy street food and come back home after a day well spent.
Zakir Hussain Rose Garden

This is another catch of the eye, a beautiful botanical garden with around 50,000 rose bushes of 1600 different species. Several medicinal plants and trees can also be found right beside beautiful flower beds.
Trivia: The park organizes a Rose Festival every year around February and March. This festival is a gala event hosting lots of contests like best photography, rose prince and princess along with joy rides, food, and fun.
Tip: The beautiful garden would never fail to enchant tourists any time of the day, and the best part is, it is, open from 6 am in the morning until 10 pm at night, except Sunday, when it opens at 9 am.
